So when do I need an oil change?
The answer is not so cut and dry and many factors determine when a vehicles oil needs changed. Some auto brands recommend oil changes be performed every 7,500 -10,000 miles, while others may specify changes every 5,000 miles. Despite an auto manufacturers suggestions, many other factors such as vehicle age, driving habits and driving conditions can all play a factor into the frequency of oil changes.
Factors for an oil change
One of the most common causes of reduced oil life is driving short distances below highway speeds. Think of rush hour traffic! The amount of stop and go and low speeds can play a huge factor. There is a popular saying among car enthusiast, “5,000 miles on the highway in five months is way better than 1,500 miles of in-town driving within that same five months period.”
Another factor that can determine the frequency of an oil change the make and model. For example, drivers with normal driving habits and driving a 2017 model may have the oil changed every six months or 7,500 miles. Drivers driving a 2006 model may need a change every 3,000- 5,000 miles or six months whichever comes first.

Taking your vehicle in for an oil change also allows the technician to inspect a vehicle to ensure that all is well. During the oil change the tech can check to see if brake fluid and coolant is adequate, hoses and clamps are in in place and tire pressure is not low.
